Hide-A-Way Ranch: is whatever you want it to be….. It can be a “summer camp” for adults and kids (or not), or a place to just relax, enjoy nature, chill out and decompress. Unlike other vacation options available in the area/state, this place is unique and limited. By that we mean, our initial one full week customers become “Charter Members” of our exclusive club. They will have first choice for renewing the following year, unless they disqualify themselves for some reason. Therefore, our goal is to eventually end up with new friends and valued customers who share our “family values” and our little slice of heaven right here over looking Beautiful Lake Buchanan. Become a Charter Member of our exclusive club by reserving your week now. You’ll be happy you did. We are initially renting our ranch during the months of May, June, July and August of 2014.

Zip Line (300 ft.):

Our zip line has quickly become our number one activity and is great fun for adults and kids 5 years old and older. Helmets and harnesses are required for all riders, regardless of age, and anyone under the age of 18 must be supervised by a minimum of three adults.

The ride is exciting, 300 feet long and will make a memory you won’t soon forget. All adults and responsible parents must sign a “liability release” for themselves and their children before anyone in the party is authorized to participate in this ride. The zip line is conveniently located about 100 yards east of the main house.

Cowboy Golf:

With 9 tee boxes and one artificial green, this Cowboy Course is perfect for practice or for a family tournament. We play “best ball” so everyone can participate and the rules are simple; a mulligan on each tee box, a foot wedge and tee on every fairway shot and an 8 stroke maximum on each hole. Six of our 9 tee boxes have magnificent views of Lake Buchan. Longest tee shot is 225 yards.

Real Golf:  In addition to our “Cowboy Golf,” we also have four excellent golf courses within 30 minutes or so from our gate. Your stay at Hide-A-Way Ranch includes 4 complimentary rounds golf at the Llano River Golf Course in Llano, just 35 miles from our gate.

Softball Field:  Bring your gloves and we’ll provide the pasture, bats, bases and balls. There’s plenty of room in the front yard for the whole family to enjoy an old fashioned softball game.

Volleyball Court:  One of our most popular events is of course the “sand volleyball court.” This is another great way to get everyone involved and create a little wholesome competition between families while making more unforgettable memories. Set up a tournament and go for the gold.

Basket Ball Goal:  Although we only have one goal, there is plenty of space to organize a game (2on2, 3on3 etc.) for a round of basketball on our lighted concrete course in the back yard behind the house.

Skeet Shooting:  For the adults in the group (sorry, no youngsters under 18 allowed), we have a skeet shooting range for mature, qualified shooters. Located in our “ancient turtle” gravel pit, the range, like our other activities are all inclusive. You provide your own shotgun and shells and we provide the range and throws. We will sell the clay pigeons (targets) to you at our cost or you can provide your own.

Horseshoes:   An old-time favorite…. how could you host your own Family Olympics without a traditional horseshoe pitching ring. There’s not much more to say about this event, other than it’s a lot of fun and more challenging than you may have remembered. BTW, have your kids ever pitched horseshoes? Just one more memory to add to your list.

Archery: Your provide your bows and arrows and we provide a professional target for those who would like a place to shoot.

Swings/Hammocks:   Here is where the decompression begins…. Whether you’re reading a book or just sipping your favorite beverage, you’ll enjoy soft lake breezes, blue skies, songbirds, and absolute serenity from your hammock as it swings gently between two huge live oaks trees. It really doesn’t get any better than this…..

Picnic Area: Our picnic tables/benches are conveniently set up in the shade of live oaks near the zip line. Therefore, the whole family can picnic while taking turns on the most exciting ride on the ranch.

Hiking Trails:  Bring your best walking shoes or better yet, hiking boots, because the terrain in some places is mountainous and the trails are rocky and rugged. The views from the crest of what we call “the mountain” are spectacular, especially at sunset. The lake is currently near historic lows (about 33’ below normal), but the views are still some of the best in the Hill Country. If you’re a nature lover and enjoy rugged and rustic, you will like our little slice of heaven. BTW, we have plenty of dirt and gravel country roads and trails the kids will enjoy as well.

Nature Photography:  For those of you who enjoy nature photography we have several year round feeder stands you are welcome to use. These elevated stands are reserved for deer hunting during season but attract wildlife year round. Deer, Ferrell hogs, turkey, coyotes, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, bobcats, ringtails, fox and even cougars have all been seen on this property.  Understandably so, because there are approximately 30-40 miles of raw, undeveloped wilderness, where wildlife abounds, between our north and northeast property lines and the city of Lampasas. Needless to say, we have our share of feathered friends including dove, quail, owls, hawks, bald eagles, many species of songbirds as well as the protected and endangered golden cheek warbler.

Mountain Biking:   If you have a mountain bike and you’re looking for a place to ride, you’ve found it. Our rugged terrain and elevations will challenge you and your friends. It’s just another way to have fun and build memories here at Hide-A-Way Ranch. Don’t forget you helmets…. they are required to ride on this property.

Hog Hunting:    If you’re a hunter and can’t wait for the season, get a head start on your sport here at Hide-A-Way Ranch. We actually have year-round feral hog hunting (under green lights) from an enclosed stand designed for up to three hunters. As long as you have permission from the land owner, which you will have, this is perfectly legal. And by the way, these hunts only occur at night. So you can sneak away after dark and have a blast…. no pun intended.

Tent Camping:   Have your kids ever slept in a tent? Some of my fondest memories are those spent with my dad and uncles camped on the Naches River in East Texas. It seems like yesterday, although it’s been over 60 years ago. Some of those special times just stay with you forever. If you will hide the smart phones and take your kids tent camping while you are here, you will give them a memory they will never forget. Whether it’s in the front yard looking over Lake Buchanan, or high on the crest of our “mountain” under a full moon, they will never forget. If you are interested in this, just let us know. We have the tents… you bring the sleeping bags and pillows.

Water Access:    Burnet County Park is our water access to Lake Buchanan, just 1.2 miles from the gate of our property. Splash Boat Rentals will deliver jet skies, ski boats and pontoons boats to the park upon request. Various sandbars are available on the lake if you choose to picnic or go swimming. In addition to excellent fishing, one of the attractions is exploring the ruins of Old Town Bluffton which was evacuated back in the thirties when the lake unexpectedly filled and flooded the town. We also have two canoes and two kayaks available for our guests at no charge. Be sure to bring your own life jackets.
