Oatmeal
Festival - Bertram Bertram is
perhaps best known for its Oatmeal Festival held each year on the Friday and Saturday
before Labor Day (August 31st & September 1, 2012). Begun in 1977 as a good-natured
attempt to put neighboring Oatmeal back on the map after state map-makers ignored the tiny
neighboring community, the festival has evolved into one of the wackiest, most imaginative
small-town festivals anywhere. In 2012, Bertram celebrates 35 years of craziness and fun,
and as always, it will actually "rain" oatmeal during the parade!
Because the festival is sponsored by Three Minutes
Brand Oats, every event starts at 3 or 33 minutes past the hour. The festival begins on
Friday night with a BBQ dinner and the Miss Oatmeal Pageant in Oatmeal. A trail-ride moves
the festivities to Bertram on Saturday, which includes a fun-run, parade, cook-off, zany
games, food, and arts and crafts, Mutton Busting and more.

Bluffton Community Celebration - Fun Food & Entertainment beginning at
11:00 am This is an annual event that has
been happening since the early 1920's as best as we have been able to determine. There
have been a couple of interruptions such as WWII and some economic down turns This a
fund raiser for the upkeep and maintenance of the community center and the grounds.
There are plans for a good many improvements as well. There will be lots of
fried fish and good brisket with trimmings and good fruit cobblers. Live
music. In the community center building there will be one or more computers to scan
old pictures, news clippings etc. Also a genealogist and a historian. Many
descendants of the original settlers have promised to come and bring old pics and other
items. Also some history books and maps. Also we will honor five long timers that
have contributed their time, work, and money over the years to help this old tradition
keep going. Each one (or a family member) will have their name engraved on a
perpetual plaque to hang in the comm. center. Each so honored will receive a plaque and a
Texas State Flag that has flown over the Capital.
Location is in Tow, Texas. You can't miss it, there is only one road in and the same
road out.
